Ahadi Achievers Empowerment CBO, in collaboration with the local community group Ngiluni-Utuneni Earth Dam SHG, has partnered with the Africa Sand Dam Foundation (ASDF) and Sand Dams Worldwide to construct a new sand dam at Nduumo River.
The project is a major milestone in addressing water scarcity in the region. Once complete, the sand dam will provide clean and reliable water for both domestic use and irrigation, directly benefiting more than 1,500 residents. Three primary schools—Kithuia, Syunguni, and Utuneni—are also set to benefit, ensuring children have easier access to safe water.
Community Impact The sand dam is expected to transform livelihoods by:
- Supporting community tree nurseries for fruit and conservation species.
- Boosting horticulture and vegetable farming, improving household nutrition.
- Driving ecosystem restoration through agroforestry models.
- Reducing gender-based violence (GBV) by cutting long treks women and girls make to fetch water.
- Spurring income-generating activities among women and youth.
Voices of Change
Community leaders hailed the project as a turning point for Ngiluni-Utuneni, noting that access to water will not only improve health and nutrition but also empower families economically.
Looking Ahead This initiative underscores Ahadi Achievers’ commitment to climate resilience, community empowerment, and sustainable development. By working hand-in-hand with local groups and international partners, the organization continues to champion practical solutions that uplift communities while protecting the environment.
